Coffee table book design

A coffee table book is the most permanent thing an organisation or a family publishes: a company's fifty years, a school's centenary, a photographer's body of work, a family's history. It is read slowly and kept for decades, so the pacing of pictures and words matters as much as any single spread.

The work is a pacing plan, picture spreads that carry the story, and text that is a pleasure at a slow read. Text-led books (memoirs, histories, non-fiction) are a different job and have their own page, book layout design. You supply the manuscript and the photographs; we deliver press-ready files to your printer's specification.

Web edition

The same issue can also be delivered as a web edition: an interactive digital magazine with text that fits any phone, video and links that work, and a reader report of opens, reading depth and time spent. One link to share by email or WhatsApp.

Web edition included with this format.

Issue launch kit

The posts that launch your issue, made from it and in its design, in your name and your voice: a cover reveal for the feed and stories, a LinkedIn carousel of the main idea, quote cards, a chart card and a note for WhatsApp, each with a suggested caption. Nothing on them mentions us.

Issue launch kit: about 10 pieces, US$99 (₹6,000 in India) per issue.

  • Cover reveal post: her portrait, her name, the Jharokha cover and Issue 01 is out
  • First LinkedIn carousel slide: Quiet is expensive, with her name
  • Quote card with her black-and-white portrait and a line from her essay
  • WhatsApp card: a note from her with the cover, reply for the link

A sample kit for Jharokha, Issue 01. Rukmini Sethna, her company and every figure are fictional; the photographs are licensed stock. See the whole kit.

Questions we get asked

How much does coffee table book design cost?
From US$1,490 for clients outside India (₹45,000 in India), fixed in a written quote once we know the page count and the state of the photographs. A 200-page book with heavy archive restoration costs more than a 64-page book of finished photography, and we tell you which yours is before you commit.
Do you work with our printer?
Yes. Send us your printer's specification (trim size, paper, binding, colour profile) and we build the files to it, including the spine width for the cover. We do not buy print ourselves, but we answer your printer's technical questions directly.
Can you lay out a text-only book?
Yes. A text-led book is quoted on page count and the number of tables, notes and images. We set the text, design the chapter openers and front matter, and deliver print-ready files for a printer or a print-on-demand service.

Tell us what you want to publish.

Tell us the format, roughly how many pages, and when you need it. We come back with a fixed quote and a date.
