Architecture and interiors from India, October 2026

Architects judge a magazine by how it treats a building. The photograph has to be honest and the type has to step back from it.

This specimen gives the building most of the page, sets a heavy lowercase masthead across the sky, and keeps the cover lines to one narrow column on the brick wall.

Decisions

  • A heavy lowercase masthead

aangan is set in a black grotesque across the open sky, the one loud element on a quiet cover.

  • One narrow column of lines

The lead number and three short lines sit on the plain brick at the right, where they do not cut across the building's lines.

  • Projects named by place

A courtyard house in Kochi, lime plaster in old Pune wadas: the lines read like a table of contents an architect would trust.
