The Tanvi & Arjun Chronicle

Wedding edition, No. 1

The Tanvi & Arjun Chronicle is a sample from our studio: a newspaper handed to every guest at the wedding, written and set like a real broadsheet. Tanvi, Arjun and their families are fictional.

A wedding newspaper is funny only if it is set seriously. So it has a masthead, datelines, continued-on lines, a weather box and classifieds, and the jokes live in the headlines and the copy, never in the design.

The same issue as a phone-first web magazine: text that reflows, a shoot to swipe, colours to tap.

Decisions

  • Set like a real paper

A broadsheet serif masthead, ruled columns, kickers, bylines and continued-from lines: the design plays it straight so the story can be playful.

  • Useful for the weekend

Timings for each event, the menu, a who's-who to recognise relatives, and a page on getting there and getting around.

  • Something to do at the table

A crossword and a quiz about the couple give guests a reason to keep the paper and take it home.

  • Tabloid size

290 × 380 mm, folded once: big enough to feel like a newspaper, small enough to pass round a table.
